I should be able to buy a rifter today even though I pretty much lack all skills to equip it properly, so yeah I won't go out there challenging people, will just keep running missions and trades while I skill up.
Yar! Welcome to EVE: pirate edition. Quote: I am going with the skills outlined in Beginner's guide to piracy which seems to focus on AB use instead of MWD. I see that most of you fit a MWD though.
That is a good place to start learning, but keep one important peice of advice in mind: The more skills you train to use multiple different modules, the more adaptable you become as a pirate. The ability to change loadouts of your ship based on situational changes in your adventures is more important than following a cookie-cutter setup.
A reason most use the AB instead of the MWD is because the MWD reduces the amount of capacitor you have by 25%, and each cycle of the MWD uses a good deal of capacitor. This can be murder for frigates and it needs to be managed carefully. The MWD also makes your ship's signature radius a lot larger, making it easier to lock, be shot at, and allows missiles to hit for more damage. It should only be used to close your target quickly and then turned off. The AB gives you additional speed, nowhere need the MWD, but without those negative attributes. Some situations call for an AB, others for a MWD. Quote: I also have some trouble following the discussion at times, I don't know what tier 2 frigs are, I looked though the ship database and didn't see anything that would match AF/Indy under frigs. What are the full names for AF and Indy? Or Inty? forget already ...
Tech 1 ships come in tiers, levels of capability basically. A tier 1 frigate for instance would be the rookie starter ship because it requires frigate 1. A tier 2 frigate could be the Executioner because it requires frigate 2. A tier 3 frigate could be the rifter because it requires frigate 3. The higher the tier generally the more armor, capacitor, shield, slots, power grid, bonuses, they have in comparison to lower tier ships.
Tech 2 ships are elite class ships that take a good deal of additional skills to pilot. They have much more powergrid, slots (generally), resistances, and capability than their tech 1 tier 3 counterparts. AF = Assault Frigate, Inty = Interceptor, HAC = Heavy Assault Ship. Those should get you started on understanding the abbreviations. Quote: Also, what's NOS? It would be nice to have a glossary for these common abbreviations. :)
A nosferatu (NOS) is a high-slot module that sucks capacitor from your enemy's capacitor and injects it into your own capacitor. Doesn't eliminate as much capacitor as a capacitor neutralizer, but this way you can take their cap and make it your own. Quote: Some of you have said that the Rifter is no good for ransom hold ups. To me that is what piracy would be all about. If I really want to stress ransoms, do I need to look for a ship other than the Rifter?
I don't have enough rifter experience to say anything on this yet. I'm much more Amarrian-focused.
Dammit! I'm gonna have to start a new account to play as a pirate! It's just too tempting to resist.
